Sohail Tanvir born 12 December 1984 in Rawalpindi, Punjab) is a Pakistani cricketer, who has gained repute for his unorthodox left arm bowling action and particularly for the success it has gained him in the Twenty20 format of the game.An allrounder, he is a hard-hitting left-handed batsman and an unorthodox left-arm fast-medium bowler who also bowls occasional left-arm orthodox spin. Despite not having taken a single wicket during his ten Twenty20 matches domestically, he was selected for Pakistan's squad for the inaugural World Twenty20 after Shoaib Akhtar was sent home. He made his Twenty20 debut in the tournament, and took six wickets in six matches, with best bowling figures of 3 for 31 in four overs against Australia. Though considered an allrounder, Tanvir did not get a chance to bat in the tournament until the final, where he made his first international runs, with a six off his first ball, aiding Pakistan back into the game.

Nausheen Agha claimed in front of the media that she has been married to Sohail Taveer in 2007 and they had a daughter in August 2011. She alleged Sohail Tanveer of a second marriage. Sohail Tanveer accepted that he has married Nausheen Agha. Nausheen Agha also accused Sohail Tanveer’s family to be involved in criminal activities and said that she has been receiving threats from Sohail Tanveer that she might be killed or her baby might be kidnapped. Sohail Tanveer said that they got married but he has divorced her.

The Rawalpindi born allrounder made his first-class debut against Peshawar in October 2004 but failed to impress with bat or ball. However, in their second match against Multan, Sohail Tanvir scored an unbeaten 97, having three windows, but has only played 17 games from first class (a total of 19 in three seasons).

Tanvir has established itself as a versatile bike and hitting his unbeaten 124 (his second century of first class) in 2007 pentangular Cup match against Sind further established that point. He also represented Pakistan Academy on their tour of Bangladesh and its good performance and complete the tour against Australia A in the ODI series at home made the selectors to name him as the replacement Shoaib Akhtar in the inaugural World ICC Twenty20. The decision was a surprise, however, as Tanvir had not taken a wicket in the ten games he had played Twenty20.His action badly, however, caused a lot of trouble batsmen and has emerged as the big surprise in the ICC World Twenty20. Although not picked up by the test team, Tanvir was back in the colors of Pakistan in ODI series against South Africa. He recorded an impressive 6 of 14 of Rajasthan in the IPL - the best figures in a Twenty20.He also bowls occasional arm orthodox spin left, as demonstrated in his second career Test, against India in Calcutta.
